Welcome to Staten's Stems

Growing Knowledge
One Garden at a Time

Staten’s Stems is a youth-led nonprofit rooted in Clay County Florida. We help children to get involved in growing food while learning the science behind it. Through gardening, composting, and STEM lessons, we show how everyday actions can support long-term change. Our goal is clear: connect children to the environment and help them build useful skills through real, hands-on learning.

We use easy tools and steps children can follow at home or in school. These experiences make science feel real instead of something found only in textbooks. At Staten’s Stems, we nurture both gardens and future thinkers right here in Clay County.

Hands-On STEM Learning

We help children do more than read about science—they dig in. Our approach includes measuring, building, and solving problems while learning how gardening supports communities and ecosystems. It’s active. It’s fun. It stays with them.

We keep our tools and lessons practical, so children in northeast Florida can use what they learn at home. Teachers, parents, and children all find something they can use again and again.

What’s Next for Staten’s Stems

Kate is working on a Girl Scout Gold Award project that builds a school garden and compost system. She’s combining leadership and learning to show what’s possible when young people lead with purpose.

She’s also written a book, The Garden with Room to Grow. It helps children explore science through plant life and personal growth. The book is now available for purchase on Amazon. We’re also planning to offer mini plant kits —perfect for gifts that keep growing.

Be Part of Something Growing

Children in our communities deserve every chance to explore science in ways that feel real. When you back Staten’s Stems, you give more than a garden—you give future engineers and scientists the roots they need. Support our work by making a donation, purchasing our book, or getting in touch today. Let’s grow something that feeds minds and futures—starting right now.
