Growing Together Through STEM
We help young people dig in—literally—and learn through hands-on projects that blend science, gardening, and sustainability. At Staten’s Stems, we bring real tools, soil, and seeds to children across Clay County. Every week, they see STEM in action by growing food, building compost bins, and learning how nature works.
These projects make learning more than worksheets. Children measure plant growth, track changes in the soil, and connect science to the world around them. By watching things grow, they discover that their care and attention can create real change.

Kate’s Backyard Garden Project
Our work started right in Kate’s backyard. She was thirteen when she turned her home into a mini learning lab. Raised beds, compost bins, markers, and measuring tools quickly became part of her daily routine. It wasn’t just gardening—it was science in motion.
This small garden became our testing ground. We watched plants rise from the dirt, tracked temperatures, and learned what compost needs to thrive. Photos here can show how far things have come—from Kate’s bare yard to beds full of green.

Girl Scouts Gold Award
For her Girl Scout Gold Award, Kate is building a compost system at her school in honor of Earth Day 2026. Through this project, she will teach students how composting reduces waste, enriches soil, and supports a healthier environment—helping create lasting sustainable habits on campus.
